My Cricut machine is not cutting through my material

Cricut Explore or Cricut Maker

If your Explore or Maker machine is not cutting all the way through your material, or is only scoring the material, check the following:

  1. Make sure that material setting you have selected in the software or on the Explore Smart Set dial matches the material on your cutting mat. For Explore models, if you have set the dial to “Custom,” ensure that you have selected the appropriate material from the custom materials list.
  2. Open the blade clamp and remove the blade housing from the machine. Inspect the blade and blade housing for, and remove, any debris that may be stuck to the blade, or may have worked its way up inside the blade housing, preventing the blade from swiveling properly.  Ensure that you are using a Cricut brand blade.
  3. Open the Manage Custom Materials page through the account menu and increase the pressure for that setting by 2-4, then perform a test cut. You may need to increase the pressure settings 2-3 times by increments of 2-4 to see a change in the cut result.
  4. Attempt cutting a different material, such as printer paper, using the appropriate setting for that material. Do you experience the same result? If not, it may be an issue with the original material you are attempting to cut.
  5. Clear the cache and cookies in your browser and attempt another test cut.  If the issue persists, try a different browser (preferably Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox).
  6. If the issue persists after steps 1-5 have been completed, please contact Member Care through one of the options below for further assistance.

Cricut Personal, Cricut Create, Cricut Cake, Cricut Cake Mini, Cricut Expression

  1. Ensure that you are using the correct cut settings.
  2. Remove the blade housing, then remove the blade and ensure that there are not any bits of paper stuck to the blade or lodged inside the blade housing. Ensure that you replace the blade housing correctly into the machine. Once clean, test your cuts again. If the blade and housing are already free from debris, or cleaning it did not help, proceed to 3.
  3. Try an arm buoyancy test: gently press down on the black arms that surround the blade housing and then release them. Do they bounce right back up, or do they stick or rub in any way?  If they stick or rub, please contact Member Care through one of the options below for further assistance.  If they bounce right back up when released, proceed to 4.
  4. Increase the machine pressure settings and try your cuts again. If this does not change the cut result, proceed to 5.
  5. Increase blade depth by turning the dial at the top of the blade housing. If this does not change the cut result, proceed to 6.
  6. Perform a Hard Reset on the machine.
  7. Retry your cuts with a new blade housing.
  8. If the machine is still not cutting through materials, or is only scoring the paper, please contact Member Care through one of the options below for further assistance.

Cricut Expression 2, Imagine

  1. Remove the blade housing from the machine, then remove the blade and ensure that there are not any bits of paper stuck to the blade or lodged inside the blade housing.
  2. Ensure that you replace the blade housing correctly into the machine. If there were no bits of paper stuck to the blade or lodged inside the housing, proceed to 3.
  3. Increase machine pressure settings, which are located in the project preview screen. If this does not change the result, proceed to 4.
  4. Increase blade depth by turning the dial on the blade housing. If this does not change the result, proceed to 5.
  5. Try an arm buoyancy test: gently press down on the black arms that surround the blade housing and then release them. Do they bounce right back up, or do they stick or rub in any way?  If they stick or rub, please contact Member Care through one of the options below for further assistance.  If they bounce right back up when released, proceed to 6.
  6. Attempt a Forced Firmware Update on the machine through Cricut Sync.
  7. Retry your cuts with a new blade housing.  If the issue persists, proceed to 8.
  8. Attempt a Format and Restore on the machine through Cricut Sync. Please note that this step should only be taken if all other steps have failed to resolve the issue.
  9. If this does not resolve the issue, please contact Member Care through one of the options below for assistance.

How to Unzip a File

How to unzip a zip folder

For Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows 8.1

Locate the zipped folder that you want to unzip (extract) files or folders from.

To unzip all the contents of the zipped folder, press and hold (or right-click) the folder, select Extract All, and then follow the instructions.

How to unzip a file on Mac Computer

Unzipping a file on a mac computer is user-friendly and intuitive. To unzip files on a mac, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Double click the zipped file.
  2. The file will automatically be decompressed by Archive Utility into the same folder the compressed file is in.
  3. Access the extracted files by clicking the appropriate icons.

Apple used to include a program called StuffIt Expander to decompress zipped files, but doesn’t now that OS X lets you unzip files (but not .sit files). However, StuffIt from SmithMicro Software still comes in handy for opening other types of compressed files, notably the .sit or .sitx compressed types. Go to www.stuffit-expander.com or www.stuffit.com/mac/index.html to download a free version of the software or to splurge for the Deluxe version. In addition to compressing files, StuffIt Deluxe lets you encrypt and back up files.

By default, compressed files are opened with the Archive Utility. It appears in the Dock (in Leopard) while the files are being unsqueezed, unless you choose to open them with Stuffit Expander or some other program.

Alternatively, if the method above does not work, you can right-click on the .zip package, and select Open With > Archive Utility (default).
